I don't think there is a problem with them co-existing. It could very well be possible for a spirit to be in some sort of a limbo -like or purgatory like state before reaching it's final destination. We hear all the time about loved ones visiting those they left behind, or being seen by them...

Wow. Well, I would hope they are genuine in their reasons for doing this. But these days, it is extremely hard to tell. People are (by nature, sadly) more and more corrupted these days. Regardless of their creed, color, religion, etc. Guess we'll see.

I have the audiobook. It is called "Heaven is For Real". Very moving story. I believe him. But, who am I to say whether any of it is real or not? But let me tell you, hearing the things that child said, it is amazing.
