Yes, you can convert to the 110v power supply it needs to operate. I would suggest using a converter that converts 12v to 110v. They are common over here in the US. Many recreational vehicles use them. Since you want it to be portable. Just get a small car battery and a converter.

Thanks. It has been used in Norway, in 220 V / 50 Hz. You think it could have been damaged since it got 50 Hz?
    So i get a 12 V car battery charger, and a converter?

The HDR is probably damaged if you connected it to 220v. The diodes inside are only rated to handle up to 150v.

The car battery, charger, and converter are the best way to go.

Oh damn, I just purchased it from a guy on ebay, he claims it was only used twice in Norway:(. Some guy from India said it works there, with their 240 V.
He must have used a converter though, since we have different plugs in Norway. And he has only positive reviews on ebay.
How can i tell if it has been damaged, and would the diodes be easy to replace?

I guess in order to get it to work, he used a simple220 -> 110 converter. But he still used 50 Hz, and i heard that could cause stress to the components.

You can check once you hook it up to the correct power supply. The electromagnet will pickup small steel or iron objects. If the diodes are damaged, the electromagnet will not pickup up anything.

You can get replacement diodes if needed. They aren't that hard to replace. Just need to use a soldering gun and some solder.

The US 12v to 110v converters will operate at the proper 60Hz frequency.
