A ruling released May 31 by California’s Third District Court of Appeals ruled bees can legally be considered fish under specific circumstances.

The ruling reversed a 2019 judgment that found bumblebees could not be considered fish under the California Endangered Species Act.

California does protect some insects under the federal Endangered Species Act.

“Although the term fish is colloquially and commonly understood to refer to aquatic species, the term of art employed by the Legislature in the definition of fish in Section 45 is not so limited,” said the court in its ruling.

The California Endangered Species Act was designed to protect “native species or subspecies of a bird, mammal, fish, amphibian, reptile or plant.”

Notably, invertebrates are absent from the list of protected species.

Did California rule that a bumblebee is a fish?

LOS ANGELES - A bumblebee is a fish under California law, a California court said in a ruling this week. And thus, the bumblebee should be protected by the state's endangered species ordinances, court documents show.Jun 12, 2022

No Bees were consulted. It says in the article: "According to the judges, the bumblebee is classified as a fish as a liberal interpretation of the word "fish".

It's apparentl that all the judges had single digit I.Q.s due to the fact that they were liberal judges. In this one case Ignorance is not Bliss. It's actually kind of scary that it appears they used a can of Bumble Bee Tuna as the source of their facts for this decision.

Nuh, They were all fed Bumble Bee Tuna sandwiches and were then coerced into signing the document(s) required.

It was either that or having to cough up private donations to said victims of
the Bee Families that were just eaten whilst being slapped with fines.

Questions were attempted towards the Bumble Bee community however,
they were all rather too buzzed to answer. 🐝🐝

Only in California, man.🐟🐝
