There are several models made and were widely used by the U.S. Navy, Signal Corps, and the Air Force. Hammarlund also produced a civilian version of the SP600 which was popular with Amateur Radio enthusiasts. (Nichols and Bielek are such enthusiasts and attend HAM radio meetings.) (From Post # 9)
This information is not right: P. Nichols was a Ham Radio Operator and Al Bielek was not Ham Radio person. Personal Note: Professor Opmmur is also a Ham Radio Operator and so is Art Bell both of use have been for many years.
I do not think the U.S. Navy, Signal Corps, and the Air Force would use the Hammarlund Radio. When better radios like the Collins 51 J would be a better choose.
