Deep Mystery: Theories Fly Over Giant Black Hole in Siberia
An enormous crater spotted near Yamal, northern Siberia, has people scrambling for explanations. Siberia's Zvezda TV recently aired helicopter footage of the giant black hole, which appears to be hundreds of feet wide and according to reports was formed some two years ago. The grainy footage isn't much to go on, and while scientists are en route to study the crater, speculation abounds.

Russia's Emergencies Ministry has ruled out a meteorite strike, though such things have been common in Russia recently. And there are the usual out-there theories of UFOs and the like. But the real cause of the hole may simply be the area's unique geology. One Australian scientist said it looked like a collapsed "pingo," which is a huge chunk of ice that sits under the soil. But Anna Kurchatova, of the Sub-Arctic Scientific Research Center, has another explanation. The Yamal area (the name is Siberian for "End of the World") is rich in natural gas, and a pocket of this combined with water and salt could have produced quite a large explosion if the permafrost were punctured by climate-change-induced thaw. The research expedition should yield further information.

I saw this on the news opmmur...a weird one. I thought it was an entrance for an underground alien base or expected to see giant tarantulas crawl out and attack mankind. Nothing can stop them as they are very hungry and coming to your neighborhood. Seriously, with all these holes out there, sinkholes, you almost think the earth is caving in or breaking apart. What do you think about this? As my grandpa once said..."something ain't right here!"

I had an idea for a B movie the other day: giant flying carnivorous spiders! Maybe this is it...

I like the gas theory myself. It appears to be a baby volcano rim around the hole. Like something underground pushed its way up through the surface.

Shocking 260-Foot-Wide Crater Discovered In Siberia -
This Is The Mysterious Hole At The 'End Of The World

18 July, 2014

MessageToEagle.com - This enormous crater has left scientists scratching their heads after its discovery in northern Siberia.
The hole is roughly 30 kilometres from Yamal's biggest gas field Bovanenkovo.

While the exact size of the crater is yet to be measured, the pilots believe it is wide enough to hold several Mi-8 helicopters inside.

At first scientists thought this unusual and rare geographical occurrence, which was 262ft wide, was caused by a meteorite. However, based on recent examinations scientists are now suggesting the mysterious crater was caused by rising temperatures in the area and not a meteorite.

According to Andrei Plekhanov, a senior researcher at the Scientific Research Center of the Arctic the giant hole which appeared in the gas-rich area earlier this week was most likely the result of a 'build-up of excessive pressure' underground, due to the region's changing temperatures.
On Wednesday, Mr Plekhanov traveled to the 262ft wide crater, in the Yamal Peninsula of northern Russia, to study how the crater was formed.

Mr Plekhanov said the giant crater appears to be made up of 80 per cent ice which adds to the theory that it was caused by the effects of global warming.

The discovery eliminates the possibility that a meteorite had struck the region - the name of which translates as 'the end of the world'. After the hole was discovered, there was speculation online about the crater indicating 'the arrival of a UFO craft'.

Experts said the cause is more likely to be global warming releasing gases under the surface, which then explode like a Champagne cork. The darkening around the inner rim of the crater indicates 'severe burning' which scorched its edges, they say. According to Daily Mail, scientists took samples of soil, air and water from the scene and were accompanied by a specialist from Russia's Emergencies Ministry.

Anna Kurchatova from the Sub-Arctic Scientific Research Centre, thinks the crater was formed by a mixture of water, salt and gas igniting an underground explosion, a result of global warming.

Gas accumulated in ice could have mixed with sand beneath the surface, and then mixed with salt.

Some 10,000 years ago this area was a sea.

Global warming may have caused an 'alarming' melt in the under-soil ice, released gas and causing an effect like the popping of a Champagne bottle cork, Ms Kurchatova suggests.

Yamal, a large peninsula jutting into Arctic waters, is Russia's main production area for gas supplied to Europe.

Speaking to The Sydney Morning Herald, University of New South Wales polar scientist Chris Fogwill said the hole is most likely to be a geological phenomenon called a "pingo" - a collapsed one. A pingo is a mound of earth-covered ice, usually found in the Arctic and subarctic areas.

"This is obviously a very extreme version of that, and if there's been any interaction with the gas in the area, that is a question that could only be answered by going there," said Fogwill.

This is by no means the first giant hole that has appeared out of nowhere. In MessageToEagle.com's article Do Gateways To The Underworld Open?we saw how dangerous mystery holes or sinkholes tend to appear suddenly in different places on our planet. No one knows when and where it suddenly opens. Recently many mysterious holes have been reported worldwide.

Some years ago, we saw incredible images clearly showing how a giant sinkhole in Sweden was expanding.

The enormous crater in Siberia has naturally caused a lot of stir and speculation in the region. "What can we expect next?", many now ask.

They're Multiplying: Second 'Black Hole' Is Found in Siberia

It appears that gaping hole discovered deep in Siberia isn't the only one: Locals have encountered a second crater, smaller but otherwise almost exactly like the first. Local official Mikhail Lapsui told the Interfax-Ural news agency that reindeer herders in the Yamal region ("Yamal" means "End of the World" in the local tongue) found the second hole about 55 miles from the village of Antipayuta. "Inside the crater itself, snow can be seen," Lapsui is quoted as saying. No pictures or video of the second hole have been made available.

Scientists have visited the original hole, and although they haven't offered a specific explanation they did say there was "nothing mysterious" about the phenomenon. "It is simply Mother Nature's law with its internal pressure and changes in temperatures," researcher Andrey Plekhanov told the Siberian Times last week. The area is extremely rich in natural gas and the leading theory is that a pocket of the substance combined with water, salt and rising temperatures to produce a significant — but apparently not unique — eruption. The investigation team will likely want to examine the second hole for more data, but no expedition has been announced.
