I have a daughter all grown up with two kids of her own. So I don't have any boys where the situation could have actually arisen. But after the fact and much later in life I discover from my daughter that her mom (my ex wife) was supplying her with condoms at age 13. So I suppose that there are parents that are concerned with their child's future enough to take an active part in preparing them for that future. So the question is, do you want to take a part in preparing them, or do you just turn your back, and let them fend for themselves. Considering, I think I would have liked to have known a little bit more about girls at age 17 than I did.
