How to select quartz crystals?

I'm going to buy new quartz crystals in order to build an pendulum.

What should I buy? Are there better crystal than others? I found a bunch of huge crystals on Ebay for 10 bucks. Are they any good or is it a scam?

I'm looking for information from members who have experience acquiring crystals. How do you choose them and why?

• Are crystals from certain parts of the world better? Tibet, China, Arkansas?
• Are double terminated crystals really better?
• Where should I buy them?
• If I'm to buy them at a local store where I live, how can I choose the right one(s)?

Yeah, I know, you're not trying to summon a daedra, but still. I have an ex who is a wiccan and they did all sorts of freaky crap with crystals and anyways, this is the site they showed me.

Buying Crystals:
There are many places to buy Crystals online. There are many small mom-and-pop shops that sell some really nice Crystals.
You can also find them on eBay but be careful of one thing. Do not buy Crystals that come from China. Look and see where the seller is and if it's coming from China... take my advice and do not buy it. The reason is... they are selling fake and reconstituted Crystals making them look like they are the true ones grown from other Earth. I found this out the hard way myself by purchasing one. It looked more like a large piece of glass that somebody took a hammer to and made inclusions to. I noticed that they are getting better and better at making their fake Crystals look like they are the real thing. But you will notice one thing that is a dead giveaway. The price is so much cheaper. You can buy humongous sized Crystals for dirt cheap. Then compare the price of the same size Crystal to one sold from Brazil or United States. You will see that the ones that come from Brazil and the United States cost much more... but they are the real deal. So if you buy a Crystal on eBay... make sure the seller is from Brazil or anywhere in South America or the United States. But if you're just searching online for shops that sell Crystals, then you should be safe as most all of them are legit.

Do not buy from China! We sold our soul to them. We import 90% of our goods from them and most of them are artificial and synthetic.

You're welcome. You might want to search for any local shops online that sell them. There is a shop here, that has an online website, they sell a lot of gothic/emo type merch, but you can find crystals and altars there too. There is also Spencers, but I don't know if they have locations in Canada, I think they are a US only store chain...

I spotted another local store, it's called Magic Magic. It wasn't open when I passed by, but I could see that they had some pendants and precious stones, and some new new age stuff. They probably have crystals.

Ironically, it's about 2 buildings from where I live. A 15 seconds walk to get there. I'll likely go on Thursday night.

The best way to choose crystals is to just hold them in your hands and see how they feel. Certain stones resonate better with certain people than others.
If you can find one, gem shows are a good place to get crystals at good prices. I'd avoid buying any online if you're not familiar with the supplier. They could be fake. Even clear quartz crystal, which isn't very expensive, is sometimes just clear glass or plastic. That's another good reason to buy them somewhere where you can actually look at them and touch them, even if you can't tell by looking, they just won't "feel" the same because they won't give off the energy that a real one would. "New Age" and "Occult" type shops often have at least a small selection of crystals. They're usually genuine.

I see you got one at a mine. That's a good place too.


Personally, I have never found the shape or size or points of a crystal or stone to matter, but it all depends on the individual. Use what works for you. Once you've been working with them for a while, you'll start to get a feel of what does and does not.

Some reasons people may prefer double-terminated crystals are:


Double terminated natural quartz crystal point
Double terminated crystals have distinct points at both ends. A double termination radiates or absorbs energy at both ends concurrently. This causes it to channel energy in two directions at once. A double terminated crystal integrates spirit and matter and offers an effective bridge between two energy points.
Healing with double terminated crystals
These are useful to absorb negative energy and break old patterns. They are sometimes used in overcoming addictions. When placed on the third eye, double terminated stones can increase telepathic ability.

If you're planning on using it to make a pendulum, I'd recommend meditating with it for a while first to get it attuned to your energies. And you definitely need to clean it before you start using it. Methods for clearing stones include soaking them in salt water overnight, smudging, leaving them out in the sunlight and/or moonlight, and some can be placed on another larger crystal with cleansing properties. Some stones should not be put into salt water as they are too soft and it will cause them to break. Methods for cleansing and charging crystals can be found online or in any sort of "magical" crystal books (i.e. not a geological reference book).

As far as crystals from certain parts of the world being better than others, I would say, if the particular crystal you are looking for only exists in certain parts of the world, then yes, those would be the only ones likely to be genuine (which also usually makes them very expensive), and possibly of better quality. Any others would probably be factory created. The only other reason I could think of would be if the crystal is said to come from a certain place on Earth known to be over certain energy points, ley lines, etc. or someplace known for supernatural phenomena or something like that, it might be claimed that it would be better. Whether there's anything to support such claims, I don't know. Otherwise, I can't see any reason the origin of the stone would matter.

crystals are interesting and when stressed they generate a piezo current , it was said many years ago that quartz rocks or crystals when held in your hand amplify the aura that surrounds our bodies when you squeeze it tight , some rumours had it that if they get over charged they can explode but I've only had one near incident of that I handled one many times used it for luck at the casino one day I dropped mine and it hit the hard tile floor in the bath room it sounded like it did more than just break it sounded like it flew apart on impact so try squeezing it in your hand to before you use it , remember they generate a signal when stressed but I don't know for sure if a squeeze in your hand would stress it enough to generate a signal and if it did it be so small only your aura may probably benefit and sense it more
