Laughter Is The Best Medicine
This is a blend of two articles I have posted somewhere else

The practice of laughter has been in the past and even today discouraged in most churches, public schools, funerals, in business and political meetings, and other gloomy somber places.

Norman Cousins’ 1964 Laughter recovery

Norman Cousins recovery from a so-called terminal illness has become the basis for what since 1995 are called laughter clubs all around the planet. After leaving a destructive hospital atmosphere with a movie projector watching the Marx Brothers and television presentations of Candy Camera conscious this was his only way to recovery he compelled himself to laugh even at some of the non-so funny gags, that ten minutes of laughter, he says, yielded some three hours of pain free sleeping time.

Cousins was convinced "laughter was the best medicine and his only hope" and after serious discussion with a considerate medic they dropped the employment of unnatural toxic substances and instead a technique of quasi-continuous laughter as a possible healing agent was decided upon.

The man was disappointed with hospitals' attitude and their aggressive drive to compel patients to depend exclusively on injections of foreign substances he knew were not compatible with the human organism and could not accept their disregard of the probable influence emotions may have on human health. Also and after leaving the hospital the man was regularly taking high doses of pure vitamin C.

After his recovery Cousins lived twenty-six additional years.

Motivated by Cousins success a medical doctor named Madan Kataria organized the first world laughter club in India. Kataria discovered that laughter via jokes is not the only approach to trigger laughter but that by faking it we get the same benefits as the real thing yet we usually end up laughing for real.

There are great physical and emotional perks derived from regular laughter yet corporations are opposed to the beneficial impact for human unity, health and freedom involved in a planet inclined to regular laughter practice be that spontaneous or fake laughter as regularly done in laughter clubs.

Now there are more than eight thousand laughing clubs in sixty-five countries of both spontaneous and fake laughter which have proved beneficial to those who are interested into experimenting with alternative healing especially laughter as the best medicine.

Regular Laughter practice stimulates friendship and good will among those who otherwise would be at each others throat, it is a simple solution to fear, sadness and even anger, it lowers blood pressure cures stress and it has proved to be a sure short cut to joy and contentment.
