This morning my son was talking about what Morgan Freeman (supposedly) said about the school shootings, and he agreed with it. But when I looked for it on Youtube, this is what I found instead: "Morgan Freeman Denies Making Statement About School Shooting"

I believe this is the so-called statement:

You want to know why. This may sound cynical, but here's why.
It's because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single victim of Columbine? Disturbed people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school?
Why children? Because he'll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody.
CNN's article says that if the body count "holds up", this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox News has plastered the killer's face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer's identity? None that I've seen yet. Because they don't sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you've just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next.
You can help by forgetting you ever read this man's name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem. You can help by turning off the news.

Interesting. That's definitely one of the viewpoints out there. But being a celebrity, I'd be more cautious on throwing this out in the media. Looks like all investigators are stumped on to the reasons why the shooter did it since he erased his computer tracks and destroyed his HDD.

My opinion: What he said was absolutely correct. I honestly wish I could get away from the coverage. I tried to watch football on Sunday and enjoy some downtime, then our "lord and savior" Barack Obama interrupted Sunday Night Football so he could give a politically driven sermon. I dont mean to be insensitive, but sometimes the best thing to do is ignore all of the ratings driven coverage and enjoy being with your family doing what you love. We don't need to know everything about the victims, their families, or even their names. It's not our place. Quite frankly I don't care about the shooter, and if there is a hell I hope he's rotting in it. The MSM alotts too much attention to these tragedies, in turn making these deranged sociopaths celebrities...as Mr. Freeman "allegedly stated". I don't understand the retraction. This is not the time for political correctness. A person of his stature should attack the MSM for their vulturistic approach toward these situations. They're like bottom feeders gorging on the devils leftovers. A lot of us feel this way, and I for one agree with his statement.
