New And Updated Forum Rules: July 2011

In light of the most recent events on Paranormalis, I'm revising, updating and improving many aspects of the site to make sure our community is a happy one, and that out of the box discussions can take place in a perfectly fluent way for everyone interested.

These new rules and concepts are a big move towards the free sharing of information, the well-being of Paranormalis and especially the well-being of all its members. This is something I've wanted to do for over a year now.

    Parallel Topics for Debunkers
In order to allow free sharing of paranormal and out of the box content, "debunking" posts are no longer allowed in original topics where members are sharing their own experiences and/or thought provoking content. Debunking discussions will take place in a parallel topic of the same name with a "Debunking" prefix.

This way people who enjoy the original topic will be free to ask questions, discuss and engage in the "story" of the thread without getting their posts repeatedly ripped apart by someone who doesn't buy it. It's all about feeling comfortable to post, share information, ask questions and interact with people who, like you, enjoy the unknown. Debunking posts that are made in the original topic will be moved to allow the original discussion to take place without interference.

    Example:
    I am John Titor
    Debunking I am John Titor

That way, debunking topics can be spotted very easily, allowing you to know you can challenge, debunk the poster's ideas directly in the topic. Here is an example of 2 topics with prefixes:

    debate.PNG

Additionally, members have the option to create new topics with the following prefix: Debate. A Debate topic is a discussion in which members will share their opinion, back it up and engage in an argument with other members to discuss and defend their points. A debate always starts as a brand new topic, it's never a spin-off of another discussion like the Debunking topics.

Although it's a Debunking or Debate topic, members posting there will need to follow the same rules and show the same amount of respect normally expected on this site. See the rules below:

    Reinforced Moderating Policy
Right then, let's talk about respecting other people and their opinions. The points listed below are things we will no longer see on Paranormalis:

    • Members being mean and/or disrespectful towards other members. Trolling, bullying, baiting, berating, etc. That kind of behavior doesn't make Paranormalis suitable for respectful, imaginative and civilized discussions and therefore cannot be permitted.
    • Members turning a topic or a poster into a complete joke. This behavior is prohibited for the same reason mentionned above. Simply because you do not agree with a thread's subject does not entitle you to attempt to end it with rude witticisms.
    • Members posting off-topic content/comments in threads. Those posts will be moved somewhere else or deleted and the concerned member will be warned if the staff considers it necessary.
Members who do not abide by these rules will be warned, then banned if necessary for the continued prosperity of the site. This reinforced moderating policy starts immediately and will be enforced by the Administrator and Staff Members. There will be no arguments on these points; all rulings made by the Administrator and Staff Members are final.

I think the "debunking" thread rule might be very helpful, provided its easy enough to follow both sides of the conversation and keep it together.

I had always been somewhat frustrated about "debunking" making it difficult to keep the flow of a thread going. I have, however, learned to appreciate well thought out criticism, after having dealt with it for so long. It does indeed make you better at your logic and understanding if you have good criticism.

Of course, criticism isn't always done well and does often distract from developing the thought, so having the separate thread can help especially in those cases.

So, to understand the play here, Hoaxers have their own thread, are no longer responsible for dealing with reality in their own thread, and their particular Hoax can continue, Never Ending Story, ad infinitum on that thread. Sure beats having to cull out unwanted logic, truth and reality in those threads and spoil the Hoaxers attempts to fish for what ever they are fishing for.

How many people will bother to read the proper "debunking" threads to understand that the magical fish being advertised and sold on one thread is rotten and not worth anything?
  8. Cosmo Active Member

Correct. Or to reflect it back, debunkers are no longer afforded the opportunity to destroy an otherwise entertaining read.

The people interested in such understanding :p I will start editing the initial post with a link to the debunking thread though so the two don't become too terribly distant.

Was this because of the Hdr thread?
  10. Cosmo Active Member

HDR thread? Not that I know of. This site has a history of being "debunker central" so to speak and I don't think that's the persona Num wants Paranormalis to have.

LOL! I'm not really getting fresh. It's a real commercial, believe it or not. Probably before your time. Only us old folk, like Star and I, (or is it Star and me?) can remember back that far!
