Nuclei of the Atom

Has the nuclei of an atom been dissected yet? What's in it? Can we harness that power?

The academic community claims the nucleus is comprised of a wide assortment of particles. All part of a theory called the standard model. I haven't come across any of it that I can personally verify though.
