The International Potato Center, a research team dedicated to improving the lives of the poor, announced on Monday that the high-energy vegetable can be grown on Mars.
The experiment, which began in mid February of this year and in collaboration with NASA, simulated a high CO2 level, low pressure and Martian solar radiation to come up with the conclusion.
The test was filmed and posted online, showing the growth of the plant under a controlled environment. The CIP claims it took about half a month for the two plants to reach a certain height and number of leaves.
Growing food on Mars is of a vital importance to the possibility of a manned expedition to the Red Planet.
