Regarding a Texas turtle and gnats...

My neighbor has a Texas turtle that she's had for 5 years. It lives in a fish tank (that is covered). Anyway, there is a problem with gnats in the tank.

We're trying to research to find out what can get rid of the gnats without hurting the turtle. I was trying to think of an insect that would eat the gnats, such as a Preying Mantis, but Turtles eat insects, so we're not sure which insect might be the answer.

Does anyone know a way of ridding the tank of gnats without hurting the turtle. All suggestions are open, i.e., insects or some other means.

Thanks in advance. :)

Place a 50/50 mixture of cider vinegar and water in a deep bowl in the tank. The gnats will be attracted to the "sweetness" of the cider and drown in the liquid. Change daily.
Make a brew of mint leaves and water, like your making a tea. Put it in a spray bottle and spray the area that attracts the gnats.
If your neighbor feeds the turtle vegetables be sure there are no leftovers in the tank. That is what attracts gnats the most.
