These Are The Biggest Threats To The Future Of Humanity

What is likely to be the biggest threat to humans over the next few years? Super volcanoes, artificial intelligence, or global pandemics? Well, according to the new Global Catastrophic Risks report published this week, it seems that we might well have to be prepared for all these things, with an asteroid impact, nuclear war, and climate change thrown in for good measure.

Compiled by researchers at Oxford University, the report details threats that could wipe out at least 10 percent of the global human population, which we might face over the next five years. They break the threats down into two categories: those which are ongoing and could happen at any point, and those that may be unlikely today, but may become more significant in the future.

“There are some things that are on the horizon, things that probably won't happen in any one year but could happen, which could completely reshape our world and do so in a really devastating and disastrous way,” Sebastian Farquhar, director of the Global Priorities Project that helped write the report, told the Press Association. “History teaches us that many of these things are more likely than we intuitively think. Many of these risks are changing and growing as technologies change and grow and reshape our world. But there are also things we can do about the risks.”

The researchers point only to recent history to show how catastrophes can and do occur. In 1918, for example, the world was gripped by the Spanish Flu pandemic, which is estimated to have infected over 500 million people globally and killed up to 100 million people, equating to 5 percent of the world’s population. The researchers note that a similar pandemic, either natural or man-made, has a "higher likelihood" to occur over the next 5 years than scenarios such as asteroid impacts.

The researchers have also drawn attention to the threat from artificial intelligence (AI). They're not the first people to do so (Elon Musk and Stephen Hawking have already gone there), but the team warns that AI might well be able to out-compete humans, especially “if its goals don't match with what humanity's values are.” This talk of robots uprising and destroying humanity has, however, been criticized before and blamed for the lack of development seen in the field.

While pandemics, nuclear war, climate change, AI, and geo-engineering have all been given attention for the threat they pose, the researchers warn that asteroid impacts, super volcano eruptions, and the far more elusive “unknown risks” have not. They argue that while in the past the major threats faced by mankind were all natural, in the modern era we are now facing more and more anthropogenic risks, and considering that we have more control over these, perhaps we should pay them more attention.

Trust me, mate. AI is still far ahead. I'll go with the "asteroid impact, nuclear war and climate change thrown in for good measure."

It's hard to tell when the AI will become a true menace. 5 years? Maybe 10?

Lmao tell you what, Num. I'm pretty sure America will be the first one to mess up (as they always seem to do. And always wanting to be the first. I'm pretty sure they want to surpass Japan's robotics too) and then the AI invasion will happen. Yep, I can just imagine the military being all over the place. I think they also want to do these kinds of things on purpose. Because "overpopulation." Sorry if I sound rude. I have a vendetta or something to America. Not exactly the Americans themselves because that would be racist. Maybe your government. I pretty much blame them for almost anything. Notice how most controversies or conspiracies surround America.

Same area but a different view as I am signed on to the changes coming in the next 200 years....

1. We have Bad Governance by Australia, India, Europe, Africa, Americas...very bad where people will be heading out to abyss and unhappy in living...

2. That causes bad Confidence in Economy

World Economy

3. The climate is changing and we do not have technology to fix it. Hence in 200 years Florida will be under the see...this is from Akashic Records as a projection...can change if people work at it...It is not given but very possible the way things are going.

Whether it is Human cause or due to Mount Toba volcano...it is what it is...but I think, we destroyed the Sea and it is a major feedback...

4. We will not have AI in 200 years...Otherwise, we could fix the planet.

there are 2 threats that could bring about the apocalypse and there legit ones two, one a nuclear WWIII which we are on the brink of or two, all the fault lines around the world trigger massive earthquakes and massive volcanic erruptions, scary but i think these two are the most likely, unless Nibru crashes into us which it could very likely do

The biggest threat to human society is the fact that someone can reverse a deadly virus and reverse everyone back to normal after they have had the virus meaning a zombie threat is very possible around 70 percent right now.

While we have many ways to kill each other....we do have overseers watching us...so, the population could go down but the society will remain unless natural catastrophe happens....I think...

Edit: Perhaps we should lean telepathy...and connect to Akhasic Records while conscious...then you know what is happening and manage the changes....That would be very difficult ...may be in 50,000 years???...and karma...
