1 - Lay the groundwork for more government authority to spy on people and not mind it's own business.
2 - Address the press people for being irresponsible with national security secrets by letting things slip into media presentations.
It probably isn't what people make it out to be. Understand and consider the political climate as it relates to the advent of the cold war, McCarthy-ism and FBI paranoia to communist factions operating in secret.
