The can opener was invented 48 years after the tin can. Well, that is quite a gap. I find it interesting that people were using hammers and chisels to open cans.
Can openers invented 48 years after cans

What does this mean? Certainly, the technology existed back then to create a can opener. Also, there was the need for one. Still, we had to wait almost 50 years. Maybe there are other inventions that we can use. All we need to do is create them and people will line up to buy em.

Originally the metal cans were plated wrought iron soldered shut.
They were very expensive and became a sort of status symbol
Wasn't until thin sheet metal cans were made that a hand-operated can opener could even be used.
Canned food was still far to expensive for the average person even then.

IOW, there was no market for an can opener that wouldn't open cans that only the rich could afford.
