I figured out how the timeline worked in Bill and Ted. At the end of the second movie, they got famous but didn't unite the world. The third movie starts in the future when they aren't really famous anymore and haven't united the universe.

Half the reason the first movie was so funny was seeing Joan of Arc and Napoleon and Billy the Kid and Ghengis Khan running through a shopping mall. Seeing Beethoven play electric piano and give a guy the death stare when asked if he's a musician.
Bill and Ted were funny as hell too but they need the historical figures or they end up a tiny bit lame.

That was part of what made the first movie so good. In the third movie, their daughters go back in time and grab historical figures. Its not as funny as the first one though. Also, we never really learn how time works in the Bill and Ted universe, just that it's "collapsing". Wish they went into more detail. Overall, I would say it's worse than bogus journey but still worth a watch. There are some funny moments that make it worth it.
