a premise: the information provided on this forum represent only a very small summary of everything that has happened. These pills are used in order to trigger the curiosity and provide points for reflection.
Now we come to us and to our history:
the trip of Leale Martelli towards Valle Benedetta. As mentioned in previous posts, Leale Martelli was sent by Himmler to Valle Benedetta to search the "mysterious object" that could turn the tide of the war now coming to the end and not in a positive way for the Nazis. as you might guess, in a time like that, was definitely not easy for a SS travel and move, especially in a territory almost completely controlled by the resistance. The trip of Leale started from Switzerland. But without a strong aid he would have no chance of success. At this point intervenes the Ahnenerbe that with its knowledge and resources provided to Leale Martelli two identity cards of the Italian Red Cross, the first of the Como committee with fictitious name and the other of the Livorno committee with his real name. Furthermore, in order to avoid the control of the resistance, a white raincoat, a band of the Italian Red Cross and a pair of boots apparently worn were provided to Leale. But also wearing those dresses, the martial behavior of Leale Martelli would make little credibility to its figure as employed in the Red Cross. There is an anecdote that says that it was ordered to Leale Martelli buttoning his coat wrong to look like an idiot. In this way he was able to evade the controls of the partisans. Once arrived in Livorno Leale Martelli found refuge at the city sanatorium, leased to six or seven kilometers from the Valle Benedetta, destination of the captain... and then...

Leale stayed at the sanatorium only three days and then moved to the Valle Benedetta.
let's see what happened.
the problem was that Leale did not know exactly where the Valle Benedetta was and mainly how to get there quickly. After requesting information, he decided to move and to try to reach the Valle Benedetta walk. A few hundred meters later he stumbled two people on a cart and he asked them a ride to the Valley. As they spoke, one of the men asked Leale where he was going and why. Leale replied that he was going to Valle Benedetta to search for his relatives. At this point the man asked who were his relatives and he said the Martelli. The man exclaimed: you must not look so much, you've found it, I'm a Hammer !!! Leale was struck by this news and the same way he was happy. The relative of Leale asked him why he was there and what he was looking for. Leale replied that he came from Florence and had come away because he had problems. Then the man asked him what kind of problems and Leale said that was fascist. (Leale at this stage is hiding his real identity of the captain of the SS, we consider that this was a period in which the resistance and the Americans had won and the Germans were wanted), the man then said: we were all fascists !!! where you fought, his relative asked and he said: I was in the Division Livorno! Livorno Division?, said the man, but then you are a hero, he continued. and the other man on the cart exclaimed more than a hero you are a ghost !!! (Livorno Division was crushed in Sicily in 1944 by Patton and all were killed) and continued: but then you know the officer, and said a name, and Loyal said: no, I'm not an officer, are only a corporal officer stocks, I've never been in the forefront. And the other, but what's your name? Leale said: Andrea Martelli. With these little lies, Leale was able in concealing his identity and could continue his mission. Once they got home, Leale met the brother of the man on the cart that we will call the woodcutter. This was a very important person in the history of Leale because he accompanied Leale throughout the whole adventure in Valle Benedetta. Do not forget that Leale was sent by Himmler to find the mysterious object spotted in the basement of the villa Huygens. For this reason Leale began to ask the woodcutter to lead him at the villa. And once arrived at his destination, the surprise was great.

Near the villa, in an area called the garden of stone, Leale broke into the basement through a hole caused by the bombing. He was inside of the ossuary of the monastery that existed in that place before the villa. Searching the area, he found a small room holding a sacellum. This sacellum was made of stone and it was green (this is an important detail). The sacellum presented various representations and the name of Huygen.
On top it was reported the following text: ANTONIUS HUYGENS NOBILS COLONIENSIS
NE MORTEM POST MORTEM ANTE MORTEM INVENIAT VITAM SUSPIRANS AETERNAM HAC IN VALLE BENEDICTA.

then the representation of the Araba Fenice

SACELLUM QUA SAMBUCAM
On the front it was reported: representation of the Phoenix and the inscription: BUCA SANCTA.
On the left side they were represented four Templars who brought four relics.
On the right side it was represented the "mysterious object".
At this point the woodcutter said he saw the same figure (this of the Phoenix) in the basement of the hermitage of Sambuca (he lived near the hermitage and as a child he often went with his friends to play in the basement). Then Leale decided to go to see what was hiding that mysterious place and the next morning, accompanied by his friend the woodcutter walked to the hermitage where he made a discovery that would forever change his life.
If someone is interested in the path made by Leale to reach Sambuca starting from villa Huygens can click on this link. What you see in the video is almost the same to what Leale saw and what he called "the path enchanted".

See you soon, if you want.

Leale, now in Sambuca, was in front of three openings which accessed three tunnels. He chose the access more difficult (it had a metallic grid covering the entrance) and he chose that because it reported engraved symbols that then Leale discovered to have great importance (see the below picture, it is a copy, not a original picture). Thanks to his charisma and his powers of persuasion, Loyal could surround himself with people who helped him and who could not deny him anything. And so it was also with his friend woodcutter, who gave him an old railwayman lamp that served to Leale to venture into the tunnel. The tunnel was realized in a very accurate way. It was about 1.5 meters high, it was coated entirely of bricks and had drains side for the water infiltration. Leale, first time I walked that way, not pushed too far. Each about 100 meters were present openings that led to rooms positioned slightly lower than the tunnel. Leale entered into many of these rooms and it found very interesting things. Many of the rooms had a chessboard floor, classic Templar symbol. In these rooms there were skeletons in a standing position that, from the clothing and the presence of the sword, looked like skeletons of the Templars. In other rooms there were the niches on the walls with the bones inside and in others were, in a standing position, skeletons of monks. To see all these rooms Leale lost a lot of time and the old lamp batteries was exhausted. Leale was forced to turn back. A few days later, Leale came back into the tunnel and this time he did not bother to visit the rooms and he walked down the tunnel to where he could. This time the woodcutter brought him two new and functional lights, a German (Daimon) and an Italian (Pagani) with two extra batteries. Leale walked for about six or seven kilometers until he came near a large hole. It was the entrance of a very deep well, seemingly without end. The hole covered the entire tunnel floor width and only through that hole would be possible to continue the journey. It seemed impossible, but Leale, man of brilliant mind, could see the niches on the inner wall of the well in front of him, as if to form the stairs. Leale then tried, with his hand (it was impossible to see them on his side), the same grooves also on his side of the well and finaly he found it. Leale lowered himself into the well using those niches as support. The niches, to a depth of about 2 meters, were present in the whole circumference of the shaft, in this way Leale was able to reach the other side of the well and then using the grooves seen before, he was able to climb the well and to continue the journey into the tunnel. A few hundred meters later, Leale came to the end of the tunnel. On the wall there was a metal ladder, he climbed that ladder and came to a wooden trapdoor. Wood was not damaged, a sign that the trapdoor was not very old. Leale forced the hatch and managed to open it. Once out of the hatch, Leale found himself in a room with so many sacred objects stacked up, it looked like the warehouse of a church. He saw a door, he forced it and he went into another room with the chessboard floor. He did not understand exactly where he was, but once outside, everything was clear. He had come to the church of Valle Benedetta. Leale had covered an underground tunnel that connected the hermitage of Sambuca to the church of Valle Benedetta. Leale came home with a determination to find out all about that so particular well. In fact, a few days later he went back to that place to continue his research, but not alone... But that's another story. Leale during his first trip into the tunnel lost his watch. It was a DOREX. If someone in the future along the same path will find a Rodex, he offers proof that Loyal really path that tunnel. If you are interested in seeing what Leale saw and seeing the representation of the Phoenix, click the link below. This is a ORIGINAL video of the first post-war. One more important thing. Today there is only one witness still alive of the existence of the tunnel and of the well. He lives in Livorno and he has many stories to tell. see you soon...

the adventur of Mario the last still alive witness of the tunnel existence...

What you will read is the testimony given by an important Leghorn person who directly interviewed Mario, the laborer who in the mid 50's discovered the underground tunnel connecting the Valle Benedetta church to the Sambuca Sanctuary.

"I reproduce below the testimony of a mason who over the years from '53 to '57, as an aide building, participated in the renovation work of of the Valle Benedetta church. During the demolition of a section of a wall, it was discovered the entrance to a tunnel that immediately attracted the laborer attention. Coming in for a certain distance, he saw a large number of skeletons and containers containing oil. But the real content of those containers was never discovered. The pastor of the church, the same present at the time of Leale Martelli, when knew that the tunnel entrance had been discovered t, interrupted the work and made close the entrance to prevent anyone from entering into the tunnel again. Before the priest closed the entrance, Mario had time to walk the tunnel and find a very deep hole (the well that saw Leale Martelli) which depth never was calculated. Mario told me that he had a stone thrown into the pit, and he had never heard the noise. Mario attributed to the fact that probably at the bottom of the hole was present sand muffling the noise, but this was never proven. Also to the Accadamia di Belle Arti di Firenze was forbidden to make an inspection to discover the true nature of that tunnel. I repeat: all I have reported took place in the mid-50s and was then forgotten. I think we should not forget this episode which once gave a lot to think about".

When Mario lived this adventure was 16 17 years, but still today he tells it with such passion and trepidation as if it happened yesterday.

Still Leale.

When Leale arrived at Livorno he stayed for a few days at the sanatorium. But he needed a closest accommodation to Valle Benedetta. Thanks to the woodcutter help Leale managed to convince the priest of the Valle Benedetta church to give him a room at the old convent of the church. Leale from that location was much more free to move. Once Leale discovered the tunnel and the well, needed assistance that would make it easier to walk around the church to look around without arousing too much suspicion in the priest. In fact, the priest did not want anyone snoop around. Again thanks to his friend woodcutter, Leale met Carla, the priest's sister, a very important person in the story...
