Inside the church of Valle Benedetta there is a small temple similar to the one in Jerusalem that covers the Holy Sepulcher. The Valle Benedetta Sepolcro is identical to that of Jerusalem, both in its size and its features. Many people ask why Don Colombino Bassi and Antonio Huygens wanted to reproduce a tomb similar to that of Jerusalem. This question was also posed by a Camaldolese friar, Don Isidoro, who in 1783, as soon as he took over the Church of the Valle Benedetta, wanted to check in person what was under the Tablerial floor of the Sepulcher. The friar removed the floor very easily and brought to light an almost intact corpse. Shocked by the incident, he immediately informed the ecclesiastical authorities that sent Father Eustachio, who ordered to bury the body even lower so that no one could find it again. Friar Isidoro was removed from the church for digging without authorization. Years later he was recalled to the head of the church with the assurance of not divulging the news. The secret remained so until 1806 when Don Isidoro wanted to confide the secret to two of his brother friars Don Mansueto and Don Damiano Magni who succeeded him as head of the church. These two friars became aware of another important relic, hidden in the church.
It was the sacred mantle of San Francesco da Paola. This cloak had the power to resurrect the dead, in fact San Francesco da Paola used it to revive a condemned man to death. This cloak could still be in the Valle Benedetta, certainly there was until 1875 when a priest called Michele Pistucci had the audacity to wear it. We do not know what happened to the priest nor the mantle ...
A necessary clarification, the mantle of San Francesco da Paola was donated to Colombino Bassi by the Grand Duchess Vittoria della Rovere together with the relic of the "whole body" of San Felice. This cloak attracted the attention of the noble Huygens as he wanted to use the powers of the cloak for personal purposes. The coat could not be used by ordinary people, but only by true saints. This is why Huygens had to renounce eternal life. Huygens later found the solution in the Romitone mirror. Here another clarification is needed to explain how Huygens came into possession of the mirror of the Romitone: in 1707 the noble Huygens had a beautiful villa built in the locality "meadows of Saint Lucia". During the excavations the remains of an ancient abbey came to light in which the black hermits hid the mirror of the Romitone that the Templars called "the throne of the Jews". In addition to the mirror of the Romitone Huygens found numerous manuscripts that narrated the history of the mirror and its use. Huygens did not warn Don Colombino Bassi of the discovery and wanted to keep this secret for himself in anticipation of his personal use: obtaining eternal life. Which partly succeeded, but this is a story that has not yet been completed.
Who will find the sacellum of Huygens will give peace to his soul and tear him from the clutches of the Romitone... Moreover who will have the courage to find the sacellum of Huygens will become very rich because the sacellum is completely made of gold, covered with a strange green paint fluorescent. Carla, sister of Don Primo, confided to Leale Martelli that her brother, Don Primo, had discovered a tunnel that started from the crypt of San Felice and reached the stone garden of Villa Huygens. The captain told Carla he had found the sacellum, but did not know it was gold. When the captain returned to the stone garden to find the sacellum, he realized that it had been picked up. Carla suspected that her brother had moved it to hide it in a deeper part of the tunnel, where it is thought to be still...

Hello all,
Tourist i saw you posted photoes of caves sometime ago.. i wonder if you can tell us something more about the caves in Montenero - Leghorn. Someone is spreading the rumor that sometimes one can hear the sound of a horn coming from the northwestern holes, as if someone is startin to hunt. It was even rumored that even the Captain would have investigated that strange circumstance.
I think you are the right guy to give us more details because you have even a friend that is an hunter...
I hope you can help us, i don`t like people trying to deceive with false statements..

Thank you.

in July 1944 with the advance of the allied troops, the Germans abandoned the last cornerstone located on the ground floor of Villa Huygens. the Germans had been housed in the villa at the invitation of the son-in-law of the owner of the villa, certainly Alberto Boyer, sympathizer and collaborator. The Germans had to leave the villa in a hurry, leaving the mirror of the Romiton in the basement of the villa. Previously the priest of the Valle Benedetta Don Primo Bracaloni (born in Parrana San Martino on 27-11-1903 ordained priest on 15-07-1934 in Livorno) had warned Monsignor Piccioni of the presence of a strange object in the basement of Villa Huygens. Once the villa was liberated from the Germans, Piccioni wanted to remove the object from the villa, but Alberto Boyer objected. Don Primo threatened Boyer to denounce him to the Americans for collaboration. At this point Boyer thanks to a transmitter he had hidden in a hill called "the mills", warned the Germans about the possible removal of the mirror of the romitone from the villa. The Germans sent a "stork", a reconnaissance aircraft. On the morning of July 26, 1944, having made the necessary observations, the Germans ordered a strong and massive counterattack, by air and by land, in order to delay the movement of the mirror. The "battaglion 500" was also sent to try to recover the mirror. This counterattack greatly amazed the Americans who believed that the Germans were in withdrawal. The German bombardment was very hard, so much to force Piccioni to bring the mirror of the romitone in the church of the village to protect it from the bombs ...

The most secure place seemed immediately the ancient crypt of saint Felice where there was a precious shrine of gold and rock crystal inside which was placed the whole body of the saint. The case was precious, but very cumbersome, for this reason it was moved to make room for the Romitone mirror. To give an idea of the size of the case I decided to post an exceptional document, which is the original engraving representing the case containing the entire skeleton of the body of San Felice. The mirror of the Romitone was hidden in the crypt which was then rendered inaccessible to prevent the devotees from entering. The faithful who were asking for the reason for closing the crypt were told that the German bombardment had destroyed the case and brought down the ceiling of the crypt. The case had been moved into an underground tunnel that led under the stone garden adjacent to Villa Huygens. The noble Antonio Huygens was built to build this tunnel in order to reach the church without being noticed. At this point I have to make an important clarification: there are two tunnels inside the church of the Valle Benedetta, a very old and long partly destroyed that connects the church with the hermitage of Sambuca, the same that Leale Martelli traveled entirely. The other, shorter and more recent, which connects the church with Villa Hyugens and emerges under the stone garden.
This tunnel is still passable, but is hidden for obvious reasons. There is also a branch of this tunnel that passes under an ancient and huge well called "the well of the farm". In this well, on 8 January 1807, a certain Giovanni Petracchi laborer of Signora Agata Huygens, was sucked in, because he was aware of the fact that the noble Antonio Huygens had not died in 1717 ...
Next time we will talk about the legend about the "well of the farm" and we will return to talk about San Felice.

Great posts by Little Doctor ! I like them as everytime.

Hi Martin Tower, the burrows starting from the caves in Montenero go down up to an unknown world , for most people considered fruit of the mythological fantasy. Some years ago those caves have been declared absolutely dangerous thus not passable by anyone.
As You alluded seems that someone realized that sometimes could be heard such an admonishment by a corn recall coming from the depths of the ground. First the religious of the place investigated untill getting astonished finding plants and see in the distance some kind of light. This happened some hundreds meters under the sea level, more or less walking for one kilometer down along that burrows. At that point none tried more getting fraightned.
The cave are nowaday definitively closed for the "upstair people".
A note: looking at the ridge lines of those hills , starting from the sea side to Valle benedetta , it seems to be watching an arc
and consider that an arc joins its ends by a straight rope below. Those hills are pierced by many passages and secret tunnels.
