You all know the story by now. Don’t wear a mask. Wear a mask. Wear a mask maybe. Wear a mask sometimes. Wear a mask everywhere.

Many Americans have been troubled by the wide inconsistencies in advice from health professionals about what to do to slow the spread of COVID-19, and no other figure has become more of a gas-lighter for this frustration than Dr. Anthony Fauci.

Fauci became the face of coronavirus in the United States and really worldwide during the opening weeks of the crisis, but now he has found himself buried by President Donald Trump who has labeled him an “alarmist.” Still, Fauci has continued to do his part, as he sees it, in the fight against COVID-19, and that has included emphatic support for face coverings in the United States. This has slowly led many American states to adopt mask mandates which has triggered plenty of controversy.

Everybody needs a break from their face covering now and then.

As for whether masks work for real or not, that is another article. You can literally find whatever opinion you like on the Internet, and not just from crackpot sites (like the CSC) but major mainstream news sources. Even the WHO and CDC often have contradictory information posted all over their sites. Fauci himself has told Americans every version of the story, but now he is on the mask bandwagon. Unless of course, it means that he has to wear one when he doesn’t want to. That’s unacceptable.

The good doctor threw out the first pitch (if you could call it that) at the opening game for the Washington Nationals, where he was incidentally one of only three fans allowed to attend. Despite an empty stadium, the three of them sat right next to each other, and a photographer on the premises managed to catch Fauci and company taking off their masks to enjoy the breeze. The photo went viral and is now the latest meme on every social media service.

For his part, Fauci says that it was really hot out there and he was drinking water. His defense is that the photo caught him at an opportune moment when he had just taken a drink of water, making it appear that he was not wearing a mask. There is no mention of his partner to the right of him dangling her mask in the wind on her fingers, or the complete lack of social distancing.

Does Fauci’s defense hold water? Well, that’s up to you. There is no video of the moments surrounding the incident that show if Fauci is telling the truth. He wore the mask diligently while throwing out the pitch on the mound, incidentally when no one was anywhere near him. Maybe we have to face the facts here that Fauci wears the mask to push an agenda, not because he thinks it necessary for himself or even those immediately around him.

It looks like Dr. Fauci is a lot more concerned about you getting the coronavirus than he is about himself getting it. Make of that what you will. Do you believe him? Is Dr. Fauci really on the mask bandwagon, or just when the cameras are rolling? We want to hear you thoughts in the comments below.
