WASHINGTON - It looks like just another press conference. But it is really a bunch of heavy hitting conservative leaders pushed to the front lines in a battle over the presidential judicial nominees.
Democrats have filibustered, or blocked 10 of the President's picks from receiving a Senate vote, saying the nominees are too controversial. Republicans say blocking a nominee is unconstitutional.
Gary Bauer, American Values President, said, "The advice and consent requirement of the United States Constitution leads to the conclusion that these judicial nominees deserve an up-or- down vote on the floor of the United States Senate."
Their letter to Senator Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) details how they want him to move ahead with what is being called the 'constitutional option." In effect, it is changing the Senate rules so it takes a simple majority of senators to confirm a judge, not 60, which is required now. This way, Democrats cannot filibuster a nominee anymore.
I find it funny that the Senators are willing to go to the Consitution and fight for the Super Majority, 60-40, but aren't willing to look at the constitution for bills that have passed that are unconstitutional.
In one hand, its funny that they do that. In another is rather sad and pathetic.
