The Easter Island Heads have a surprise! Torsos

Jo Anne Van Tilburg, director of the Easter Island Statue Project, has been excavating two of the statues' buried bodies since 2010.

"In fact, archaeologists have studied the statues on the island for about a century, and have been aware of the torsos beneath the statues' heads since the earliest excavations in 1914."

You can see the torsos in the video below and here: http://www.eisp.org/

Question, did they dig the hole and then make the statues covering up to the neck? Or, did they make the statues and the ground just slowly built up over time leaving the head exposed? Or, did they dig the holes so deep to build and then bury the entire statues but over time the heads became exposed? Or, did some gigantic toddler bury his toys to the head and forget about them?

I knew they had a torso I had listened to the conspiracies that there is more... I think that they also have legs personally.
