On the Brink of War

I hope Harte is correct and Kim is weak - but I found a lot of statistics that say otherwise. I hope all his big missiles were mock-ups and all his weaponry is rusty and faulty. I just don't want to find out while we are knocking his shit out of the sky and hoping he misses.

There is no way China or Russia are going to allow NK to reunite with SK and give the west a leg up in the region and EVERYONE knows that. That is why having China bring it under control is the best chance for stabilizing the region without an east/west conflict. And honestly, I am tired of USA "liberating" governments that have valuable resources or refuse to play in the world bank system. They are so afraid for us to see socialism working they go around secretly creating conflict and acting as the rescuing savior. We've torn up some fine countries in the process.

Agreed. I hope he is weak and I hope we can disable his nukes. China does need to solve its own problems and use its own money. U.S. can't always foot the bill. BUT...nukes...nukes change everything..... every country becomes morally obligated to help, more or less, because nukes are intense and cause years of devastation.

Kim has an enormous number of soldiers. But if they go anywhere, he can't feed them.
An incursion into South Korea would probably cut the number of forces in half through defections alone.

The key is to prevent him from developing a missile that can reach us here in the U.S. The people close by around him can concern themselves with shorter range missiles. The U.S. can be a broker, but it's for Japan and China to deal with it.

We could do it with our own missiles from offshore, but everyone in the area has to be part of that or it's not in our interests.

Yeah, I was thinking that if he nuked anyone it would be China. Trump is trying to get China to deal with it. They really just need to get rid of him. Period.

Chill! I'm usually the one carrying the fear monger baseball bat. I'm pretty sure you are misinterpreting what is being said here. Or maybe it's that I said I do fear nuclear war, while most who opined said they don't. Or maybe you just read the thread title and not the posts. I am not sitting here shaking gmerdude, I just am not desiring, as an old American retiree, to hear anything but birdsong outside my windows. :meow:

We are discussing a bizarre and unpredictable leader on the world stage, who says things that make the world nervous. And I mean Kim this time, not Trump! Also, I'd say we seem to be in bipartisan and International agreement that we like Trump's approach to this particular issue, so far, in this thread.

We also wonder why our damn TTer's don't give us better, more useful info . . . jerks!

I don't crave war. I crave hot cocoa with marshmallows.

Sick and twisted? Maybe just a little . . .

Winston Churchill once said, those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it. Americans don't seem to appreciate that outside the confines of their country they are seen as aggressive expansionist. Whom either pedals to or forces other countries to accept policies that safeguard their own monetary and national self-interests. Countries like North Korea wouldn't waste resources building nuclear weapons, if America did not have a track record of invading countries that are militarily weaker than them or meddling in their governing if they reject their foreign policies or commercial interests. You don't need a time traveller to point that out.

I'm not worried about a nuclear war because if they attack us, we attack them. Prevailing winds and ocean currents would spread the radiation to areas that might not have been hit...killing masses. Besides a nuclear winter would block out needed sunlight so crops wouldn't grow in the soil full of radiation so survivors would starve. There are no winners here as everyone loses, some quicker than others.

But some people aren't rational and don't care if we all die, including themselves...they need to be dealt with. Just like it is with guns, it isn't the guns that kill...it is the person pulling the trigger. The little guy from NK needs to have a M.O.A.B. dropped on his head.

Kim isn't rational. He probably would still do it knowing he'd die from it. I'm concerned about China being hit.
I'm fine with China being hit because China has been stealing in it's neighboring Asian countries' islands and ironically the ones they claim (and some are in their hands now building military bases on said stolen islands) the ones more rich in resources and since Philippines is poor we just sit and watch. Our best bet is to negotiate with China but even the chances of us reclaiming our real respective Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ [Technically our territory if you dont know]) is slim. I heard on a news article that China has also been teaching it's younger generations that they own most if not all of Asia and from a Taiwanese guy that I spoke to in a chat, he said that he can't believe some people still believe in the Chinese government when it's been revealed that government officials force celebrities or famous people to tell and encourage their fans that their territory is China's and not theirs. Some powerful countries like Japan don't want to start a war with China so we're just watching here like sitting ducks as they steal our islands. It's about time that they'll start to creep closer and closer into our mainland and capturing us too.

Meanwhile the US just wants war. At least that's one thing I agree with our Pres, Duterte. And we really don't want to start a war because Philippines will be the battleground as our president amd secretary of defense has said many times before. And any move with the US will make China mad and drive away our fishermen even more or fire water canons at them. I do know that the US just wants war and wants to heavily militarize our country like adding more American bases. So we're technically in a nut shell. Forget about North Korea. North Korea is weak compared to China. The only reason why China hasn't cut their ties with the Kims is because their nukes are close enough within range to their territory.

I think, the guy in charge of North Korea at the moment. If he tried to bluff on me on a Poker game i would go all in with him all the time. This new Jon-jon is a bluffer.
The late bluffer scared the hell out of japanese people with those missiles tests. Jon-jons became a synonym of devil for the South Korean imagination.
The problem is that Obama was a very weak president and surrendered himself to the the fear of war.
Now Obama is trying to lead Trump to impeachment with the same weak preaching he used to do during his mandate. I remember Trump saying 'i wanna make America proud again'.
And although i am not a voter, my opinion is that 'America' will finally recognize the true value of this courageous president.
Jon-jon may go on trying to intimidate him, but take my word on that - Jon-jon is a bluffer. Trump will go all in with him and he will have to show that in fact he has no cards. China does not want a war in the region. Too bad for business!!!

So something is up. Trump meets at WH with UN Security Council.
Trump calls for new U.N. sanctions against North Korea
Entire senate called for briefing at the WH
It feels like we are internationally in concert to back Kim down without war! If war is the failure to communicate, then let's hope that we don't do what we did when Saddam Hussein wanted to negotiate about Iraq. We backed away from the table and used the WMD lie to invade Iraq. We had an agenda and peaceful resolution wasn't part of the plan. I am starting to think Trump really does know what he is doing! Kim is the unreasonable person, the Wild Card, in this scenario - the USA cannot be the one to force this leader into submission. It has to be China and/or Russia - or by some MIRACLE, the UN, who really needs the win to gain some credibility as a Peacekeeping body.
