On November 11th, 2004, Yasser Arafat will pass away.

On November 16th, 2004, a train crash in Queensland, Australia will injure about 120 people.

On December 31st, 2004, Ukrainian Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich will resign.

On April 2nd, 2005, Pope John Paul II will pass away.

On October 8th, 2005, there will be an earthquake in Kashmir.

On August 7th, 2005, Peter Jennings will pass away...

To be on the convincing side why did not the guy include at least one score from 2006? I do not buy 2005.

This isn't meant to be a joke or hoax.

I restored this thread last week but didn't look at the content. I thought about it a couple of times since then, and I decided to take a look tonight. Because why not? To my surprise, I was able to confirm the dates of 6 out of the 7 predictions this post contains. They took place. The only one I couldn't find was #4, that's related to a Ukrainian PM resigning.

Did we have a time traveler visit the forum in late 2004 and didn't notice it until today? Wow, slow down!

As you can see in the snapshot above, those predictions were posted on October 8th, 2004. They relate to events that took place in late 2004 and 2005. The snapshot you're looking at was taken by the Wayback Machine on Jan 31st, 2006.

I, myself, couldn't have edited this data (right now, or at any point in the past) because it's been archived since 2006. It's directly in the Wayback Machine's archives, absolute read-only. I became an admin in 2009, so before that, and at the time this snapshot was taken in 2006, I was just a member, so I couldn't edit posts.

Could an admin of TPN, have made this, as a joke, using his editing privilege? In other words, edit this post at some point in late 2005, and update it with past predictions? That's not impossible. I talked about this with @Cosmo and obviously, we can't possibly confirm, as this message was posted nearly 18 years ago. And it's the only snapshot we have of this message.

If you take a look at the user "The Prophet", the old TPN snapshot says he has 2 posts. I don't know yet how, but I'll attempt to find it. It has to be somewhere, among the 29 000+ pages that were scrapped off the Wayback Machine's archive.

I'll let you guys be the judge. What do you think?

I verified everything again. And noticed that the account's email address is [email protected]

That's very suspicious and it suggests it's an account that was created manually by a forum admin of that era.

Or the email was updated by said admin for some reason. Hide tracks? Can't possibly tell.

So, that makes it more and more likely to be a joke and likely that I got caught nearly 18 years later!

UPDATE #2

I found the second thread created by The Prophet. It turns out it was a joke made by Cosmo's brother, using Cosmo's admin privileges.

It was a fake, folks! *sad trombone*

Awesome. I don't remember this one... I played an immortal man once and had another thread about love and light years ago (Samstwitch days, during the Gentle Smile era) but this one doesn't ring a bell at all. It's been a very long time, though.

Could be someone was able to edit their own posts for for a while after the fact. That was an option we had in the earlier days I think. The email on the account being weird doesn't make sense to me, ether... I don't think you can sign up with an email like that now, but maybe in 2004? It was vBulletin, after all. I would err on it being something silly.

I will try. I'm not aware of any specific technique to do so, so I'll dig into the Excel list and see what I can find and validate it manually.

It's not a 100% sure we have it, but there's a chance.

Anything with u=151 in the URL might give a hint. If you can glean the ID of the other thread from the profile, it might be found that way and see what else was said.

I believe that this is the thread where I made a series of predictions that came true, one of which was that Hillary Clinton would not win the Democratic nomination for President. It was two or three years later though, so it could have been a different thread.
