The small device shown in the first picture is a 12v. power inverter that allows to hook up the device to a car. Steven L. Gibbs said that the square wave that they produce enhances the function of these machines. In the second picture, you can see the cigarette lighter plug that carries the 12 volts to the inverter. You should be able to find a similar device at Radio Shack for about $100. Check the current handling capacity before investing.
The black cylindrical device (the one with the cat) is the electromagnet that is hand wounded with 22 ga. wire. Instead, there is a simple molded handle grip over one end of the length of the barbell iron. Also, you can see the pilot light illuminated in one picture. The potentiometers had to be mounted on 2 sides to save space. As you can see from the inside of the copper pyramid, the wiring is a bit of a "rat's nest". The diodes are mounted on a clear Plexi board 1/3 of the way from the bottom.
The copper-clad pyramid enclosure is one of the defining differences between the MVR from the HDR models. Its shape frees the user to be away from a natural power grid during its use. You can also add a double-terminated quartz crystal to the circuit to improve its performance.
