Trying to contact alien life in order to create/discover new technologies

I have been in a bit of a pit lately. I've had many ideas for advanced engines and machines, yet I don't have the means to create the inventions I wish to make. This is my last resort; is there a way to integrate/use/discover/create advanced technology by aliens?
