How much of our brain do we actually use? Brain facts and myths

Decent article on 10% myth

According to a survey from 2013, around 65 percent of Americans believe that we only use 10 percent of our brain.
But this is just a myth, according to an interviewwith neurologist Barry Gordon in Scientific American. He explained that the majority of the brain is almost always active.
The 10 percent myth was also debunked in a study published in Frontiers in Human Neuroscience.
One common brain imaging technique, called functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), can measure activity in the brain while a person is performing different tasks.
Using this and similar methods, researchers show that most of our brain is in use most of the time, even when a person is performing a very simple action.

As for increasing activity in the brain to enhance performance, several chemicals are known to be potent nootropics. Nicotine for example

There is also promise via both magnetic and electrical stimulation

Transcranial magnetic stimulation - Wikipedia

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), also known as repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), is a noninvasive form of brain stimulation in which a changing magnetic field is used to cause electric current at a specific area of the brain through electromagnetic induction. An electric pulse generator, or stimulator, is connected to a magnetic coil, which in turn is connected to the scalp. The stimulator generates a changing electric current within the coil which induces a magnetic field; this field then causes a second inductance of inverted electric charge within the brain itself.[1]:3[2]
TMS has shown diagnostic and therapeutic potential in the central nervous system with a wide variety of disease states in neurology and mental health, with research still evolving.

Electrical brain stimulation - Wikipedia

Electrical brain stimulation (EBS), also referred to as focal brain stimulation(FBS), is a form of electrotherapy and technique used in research and clinicalneurobiology to stimulate a neuron or neural network in the brain through the direct or indirect excitation of its cell membrane by using an electric current. It is used for research or for therapeutic purposes.

Lots on the horizon.

I have to agree with Kairos here, we have already proven that we do use all of our brain even if we don't realize that we are using it. For example: we could be in a state of unfocused behavior where our mind is completely blank, but we are still conscious of our surrounding area. This happens as a survival instinct from ages ago.
