Every Day Carry

What will you carry every day? What is a realistic EDC?

There are all sorts of lists of things for EDC, and most of them list some very wise and useful items. But if you were to carry everything that might be useful, most likely you would need a wheelbarrow.

So!

Here is a minimal list:

Your phone
Some folding money
Sunglasses -- plastic frames, plastic lenses, polarized
Spare shoelaces or bootlaces
A small flashlight or two
A Swiss Army Knife, or inexpensive knockoff of one
A small multitool, pliers-type

More than minimal items:

A small but functional compass
A disposable lighter inside a small plastic container (watertight)

And... what else?

You might not be able to carry them in your pocket, but plastic ziploc baggies, aluminum foil and garbage bags are good to have. I'll think of more...

I spend most of my time driving when not at home so, imho,
having this in your car boot is not out of the ordinary.

YMMV

A while back on another forum, we had a contest to see who carried the most stuff in their "backwoods" jackets.

I didn't even make the top ten.

First Aid Kits

Every first aid kit should include some BFI First Aid Powder.

Unfortunately they stopped making BFI quite some time ago.

I've been having a look around for something similar.

Some of these powders aren't exactly intended for use on humans, does it matter?

Things For Chopping And Whacking

This is a good old thing to have:

My grandfather had one, and a few years ago I bought a new one. A very tough little item, it can do the job of a hatchet or a machete pretty okay, and is also not bad for digging and cutting tree roots, etc. Works okay as a utility knife too.

Another thing:

Never owned one of these, borrowed one once, it was okay but I found it a bit tiring and hard to grip after a while. But maybe I just wasn't used to it, if I owned one I would wrap some rubber on the handle.

I saw a video once of a crazy old Danish (or perhaps Dutch or something) guy who lives in Siberia up amongst abandoned old gulags and mass graves and whatnot, well anyway he used one of these things to chop up an old car. So these things are definitely rugged. I will try to find the video.
