Those triangle symbols were not used in any calculus I was taught. And I aced my calculus course. Was this part of Newtons symbology which was later replaced with Leibniz symbols?

There is no "answer."
The poster has no idea what they wrote.
The capital delta symbol (looks like a triangle) has two meanings in mathematics - change, as in delta x, or delta t, and discriminate of a matrix.
In both cases, the delta must be followed by the thing it is affecting. The variable, or the matrix.
IIRC, the upside-down delta means gradient, which also must be followed by what you are finding the gradient of.

In each case, the thing is a descriptor or operator and just writing it by itself is meaningless.
