Question: How deep is the ocean?

Answer: The average depth of the ocean is about 12,100 feet. The deepest part of the ocean is called the Challenger Deep and is located beneath the western Pacific Ocean in the southern end of the Mariana Trench, which runs several hundred kilometers southwest of the U.S. territorial island of Guam. Challenger Deep is approximately 36,200 feet deep. It is named after the HMS Challenger, whose crew first sounded the depths of the trench in 1875.

The lowest point on Earth not covered by ocean is 8,382 feet (2,555) meters below sea level. That spot is in the Bentley Subglacial Trench in Antarctica, buried under lots and lots of ice.

Good posting Prof..I think the deepest we can get in water is about 22000 feet..Amazing isnt it Prof, we can send probes out into deep space and see pictures, locate black holes that collided billions of year ago and yet we still dont know what is at the bottom of the Pacific ocean on our own earth!!....maybe one day "man will get his head out of the skies" and get to understand more about our beautiful planet

Excellent question Derrick :)

Ty TimeFlipper, it would make sense for there to be a few down there since man kind knows more about the planets and solar system then our own planet. :cautious::eek:
:D Maybe it is a diversion to prevent the human species from discovering where Higher Intelligence really is watching us from  They engineered it so the human species is constantly looking up and spending billions on space discovery and they don't really look down as often. Is a great cloaking strategy though ::LOL:: ;) Maybe they should spend billions on exploring the oceans more :D That is where they find so many new species of life popping up all the time :)
