Archaeologists restoring a temple in Egypt unearthed a pair of enormous sphinxes that measured a staggering 26 feet long. According to a press release from the country's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the remarkable find was made as experts were working at a site in Luxor dubbed the 'Temple of Millions of Years.' Serving as the as the final resting place of King Amenhotep III, who ruled Egypt around 3,300 years ago, the temple is said to have been "destroyed as a result of a devastating earthquake that swept the country during ancient Egyptian times" and is only just now being excavated by researchers, which led to this latest find.

Unveiling the ancient and somewhat eerie objects (which can be seen in full below), the ministry explained that they were "parts of two colossal limestone statues of King Amenhotep III in the form of a Sphinx, wearing a mongoose headdress, a royal beard, and a wide necklace around the neck." The archaeologists noted that the location of the massive sculptures within the temple complex indicates that they were at the start of a procession road "in which the celebrations of the Beautiful Valley Festival were held every year." In addition to the two jaw-dropping sphinxes, researchers also found a trio of busts of the goddess Sekhmet that were fashioned out of black granite.
