That didn't happen. There have been remains of ramps found at the foot of the GP leading out of the quarry. At other pyramids too, with a couple of ramps actually left next to a couple of pyramids.
Besides, the AE's couldn't have made such a contraption because it requires a watertight seal, which would have constantly been under maintenance.
There's no reason at all they couldn't have dragged every block into place, therefore there is no reason at all to posit the existence of this contraption.
