Yep, Women Use Birth Control to Have Baby-Free Sex. Your Problem With It Is....?

By Amanda Marcotte

Two Colorado advocacy groups, the Colorado Consumer Health Initiative and Progress Now, have joined forces to educate younger people about getting health insurance through a new series of ads pointing people to the Got Insurance? website. Some of the ads use silly jokes to catch people's attention. There's one about sports, and another about drinking. Oh, and of course S-E-X, because sex is a thing that comes up sometimes with your health care.

It's a cute ad drawing attention to the fact that health insurance is required to cover contraception now. Of course, it's also an ad that makes the apparently controversial observation that women might feel sexual desire like they're people, so naturally, conservatives are up in arms. Rush Limbaugh has a word for the kind of woman this ad speaks to, the kind who likes to have sex sometimes without getting pregnant: "prostitute." "What these ads are really promising, if you like your risky promiscuous lifestyle, you can keep it," he said, adding, "If you like being promiscuous, you can keep on being promiscuous. If you like being a prostitute, then have at it."

As a reminder: The "risky promiscuous lifestyle" that Limbaugh is describing here is "using contraception," a "lifestyle" enjoyed by nearly all adult women. That presumably includes all four of Limbaugh's wives that never had children with him.

Limbaugh's belief that contraception makes you a slut is no big surprise, of course, but the panic at the possibility that women might be having sex for fun took off like wildfire on the right this week. Many conservatives on Twitter got a little excited at using some of their favorite words to shame nearly all adult women for acting like adult women do.

New Obamacare Ads Use Party Girls, Bloody Kids And Keg-Stands (Again) To Sell Insurance

The Huffington Post
| By Matt Ferner Posted: 11/12/2013 2:38 pm EST | Updated: 11/14/2013 10:20 am EST

The people that brought you the Obamacare keg-stand "brosurance" campaign are back with a new set of eyebrow-raising ads.

The ads, which all live on the DoYouGotInsurance.com website, are a collaboration between Colorado Consumer Health Initiative and ProgressNow Colorado Education, and reference the famous "Got Milk?" ads.

In one ad -- called "Let's Get Physical" -- characters named "Susie" and "Nate" are described as "hot to trot." Susie gives a thumbs up while holding a back of birth control pills.

"OMG, he's hot!" the ad reads. "Let's hope he's as easy to get as this birth control. My health insurance covers the pill, which means all I have to worry about is getting him between the covers. I got insurance."

Another ad called "Uniform Coverage" depicts two young girls who have apparently just finished an extraordinarily violent game of soccer:

A particularly deranged-looking machete-wielding boy is shown carving a pumpkin (and presumably his hand):

And "shotskis", because Colorado:

The campaign also features a new keg stand-loving "gargoyling bro" named Sam, because of course:

And Ryan Gosling because Ryan Gosling:

So why the focus on young women this time around? Jen Caltrider of ProgressNow Colorado Education said in a statement: “I watch a lot of football, so I’m not really surprised keg stands and red solo cups are the way to reach 20-something guys. Those guys signing up for insurance is only half the equation. We need to reach 20-something women, as well, and we hope this round of ads will do that.”
