There is always the risk that communication can reach the wrong hands, but there is also a chance that it doesn't. We can hide or we can reach out. What if we meet a wonderful species? You never know. I don't believe in cowering in fear.
At 10 miles/second, the Voyager probes are traveling very slowly and aren't the problem. What is a problem is all the noisy antennas we keep erecting on the surface of this planet. Let's not forget the periodic nuclear tests. That doesn't matter anymore as the aliens found us long ago. Whatever disaster scenario we're playing out has been in motion for who knows how long.
