If it's legit, then it's unlikely a human spirit and moving from the home probably will not stop it from happening.

Most human spirits pass on to the next 'life', so I'm in somewhat of an agreement there however, in my experience the ones whom do not go gently into that good night, can be exactly as this story portrays. Malevolent.

In full agreement with you on the occult.
It can be EXTREMELY unwise to mess around with.
Like Ouija, black mirrors...etc, these are not games...but instruments that can open doors that are sometimes very hard to close.
