We're all going to die!

...Just kidding.

The LHC (Large Hadron Collider) is going to be tested for the first time on Wednesday, September 10th 2008.

I've come across a few articles where people are concerned it's going to open a GIANT BLACK HOLE or cause the universe to explode... I'm just curious about what you all think.

So, are we going to die... Or are we going to learn about physics?

Nothing at all will happen. Yes science most likely will advance slightly by finding new particles but it will not endanger anything at all.

I did read somewhere that they are just starting it, but not really testing it.
What I understand is that on Wednesday, they start the LHC, look if all is ok, and then shut it down.

They're doing one trip around the LHC just to test it out, with actual experiments beginning on October 8th.

One of the choices should have been "Open the door to other dimensions"

Since it wasn't there, I chose "Nothing".

As funny as it might sound it could be a real possibility. But only once both beams are working.

And then, what's going to happen on October 8th, anybody thinks it could be the end of the world ?

I think that the small scale the LHC works upon will merely disrupt space time in a minor way (this is in comparison to the thousands of natural events that take place in the universe).

But seriously, I would assume that this disruption will be seen by "entities" as a beacon, or a calling.

A little spooky if you ask me.

Lets hope they arent hostile. They might see the particle beam as some kind super weapon and have to launch a pre-emptive strike!:D
