What if there is no gold in Fort Knox?

There has been suggestions that the gold was all sold a long time ago and this is why they don't audit or allow anyone to look inside.

If we found out there was nothing there could this lead to a massive world banking collapse?

No, because there hasn't been a gold standard in a long time. Fiat currency, like exists today, has value only because somebody says it does. The last time somebody tried demanding payment in gold, their country got invaded, and they were murdered. Perhaps you've heard of Gaddafi and the 2011 invasion of Libya?
