But gravity itself can function as a centripetal force (for example between the moon and the earth). As a matter of fact it is always another force that functions as a centripetal force. The concept of a centrifugal force is an old scientific inaccuracy. There's nothing that pushes an object out. It just wants to move tangentially, but is pushed inwards due to the centripetal force (which also causes the circular route).
