$40 million and no heirs: Are you related to Roman Blum?
A $40 million fortune may go to the state of New York after a 92-year-old holocaust survivor died leaving no will and having no known heirs. The man's friend said Roman Blum “was a very smart man but he died like an idiot” leaving no instructions in the form of a will for what he'd like done with the money, according to the Inquistr on Monday, April 29, 2013.
Without a will and without any heirs, the state of New York will legally get his money because this is the state he resided in. Any long-lost heirs have three years to come forward and if none are found after the three years, New York gets a $40 million wind fall.
Blum's house and other worldly possessions have been sold and the money added to his estate by Gary D. Gotlin, the public administrator working on the case. The assets sold include jewelry, furniture, and other belongings that were put up at auction and sold to the highest bidder.
Blum, who was a real estate developer, lost his only living relative in 1994, his wife. After she passed away, that was it. He has no kids, brothers, sisters, or even any distant relatives that can lay claim to this fortune, or at least none that have been found yet.
Before Blum passed away he was becoming mentally feeble. He told his accountant, who reminded him for some time to make a will, that he would do it next time the two met. That never happened as Blum was gone before they saw each other again. Now the fortune is more than likely just going to be dropped into the state's account when the waiting period is up. That is unless you have an long-lost uncle named Roman Blum.
