Spectabili et nobili viro Petro de Medicis tanquam frater”.</em></p><p></p><p>Un connubio simile a quello tra i Martelli e Benozzo Gonzoli, Antonio Huygens volle ricrearlo avvalendosi della collaborazione di un altro grande pittore, Pandolfo Tidi (conosciuto anche come Tibi) con il quale volle ancora una volta raffigurare le gesta dei magi in un’opera a tema, cosa che poi ebbe seguito nel dipinto tuttora presente nella chiesa della Valle Benedetta intitolato “L’adorazione dei magi”. Adesso voglio narrare, per coloro che cercano tra i meandri della storia indizi che confermino ciò che da tempo scrivo per dissetare il sapere delle confraternite e sostenere i cavalieri, in modo che ognuno sappia come agire al momento opportuno. Vi narrerò come Huygens e Pandolfo Tidi, si incontrarono per la prima volta. Era una fredda mattina di primavera, Huygens era arrivato di buon’ora con la sua “vecchia” carrozza stile barocco adornata di sculture e trainata da due cavalli bianchi. Anche il suo lungo mantello imbottito era bianco, reduce di un inverno che pareva non voler cedere il passo alla buona stagione. La carrozza si fermò davanti alla chiesa del Santo Sepolcro della città di Pisa e Huygens non passò certo inosservato. Anche quella mattina, prima di scendere dalla carrozza, lanciò alcune monete verso un gruppo di poverelli che sostavano nei pressi della chiesa. La cosa creò un certo subbuglio e attirò l’attenzione di un giovane appena ventenne destinato a diventare pittore e in seguito cavaliere di Santo Stefano. Questo giovane si chiamava Pandolfo Tidi, e fu proprio quella mattina del 4 maggio del 1716 che i due ebbero un primo approccio.
