These disparaging remarks did not escape the attention of Romitone, who wanted to drag the painter Natali into its temporal coils in order to obtain from it a true diabolical transaction. As described in part in the previous post, the Romitone waited for Renato Natali to remain alone in his car, a car that had been parked earlier at the very foot of the church, in front of a fountain. As Renato Natali watched from the window, time for him stopped and then passed backward in days, months. Seasons of a bygone time reappeared in the artist's eyes, without him being able to realize it. He saw the sun become cloud, the cloud rain and the rain snow, which, however, fell only on the church and the steep slope that led and still leads to it, without covering the car. The white snowfall made the front door of the church cloister even more conspicuous so that the painter could see Romitone and his hooded men more distinctly. All this atmosphere created had the very specific purpose of suggesting the painter and inducing him, once he arrived home, to depict a scene very similar to the one painted by Voltolino Fontani in "The Transaction of Christ," where Jesus is seen surrounded by hooded men, a very esoteric and explicit scene, liked by Romitone to the point that he too wanted to be depicted with the same hooded men. In order to even compete with Christ in the same church and make it clear to both the pilgrim and the layperson that the hooded men can support and carry Christ, but still walk in darkness alongside the Romitone. Instead, there is no need to reach into darkness to still see hooded black knights striding inside the church, since, once again, the eternal struggle between good and evil is being waged silently but ruthlessly inside the church of the Valle Benedetta between White Knights and Black Knights. The former have the faith, but the latter the power of knowledge. At the moment the Whites seem to excel, their snow-white cloaks caressing the floor and walls of the church, solidifying their will to garrison it and understand its secrets, but that is another story. A story that becomes increasingly tangled and interesting, filled with twists and turns since only a Black Knight would be able to instruct the White Knights and reveal these secrets to them. A Black Knight who may have been at one time instructed by the Romiton.
