With a lot of people rejoicing about the coming distribution of somewhat effective COVID-19 vaccines, it’s important to realize that while even the prospect of such a vaccine this quick after the virus was discovered is a medical marvel, there are a lot of things that could still happen between now and the finish line.
Denmark is slaughtering millions of minks now that it has been realized that a mutation in the COVID-19 strain can jump to humans. This is very bad news for vaccination enthusiasts as it reminds us that while a effective vaccine might be working right now, the virus situation is fluid, and there’s nothing saying that it will not mutate and render the vaccine useless. Maybe Denmark will be in time to stop this from being the real second wave of COVID, but it is a stark example of how we may not be out of the woods yet, vaccine or no vaccine.
