People like Bill Gates think the world is over populated, even though humans only occupy 10% of the planet. Elon musk says the opposite is true and that our birth rates are declining. He is concerned about this. Musk believes people aren't having children due to fear of climate change, but I see something different. In countries like America, the middle class cannot afford health care and having a baby comes with thousands of dollars of hospital bills. Birth is not "free" in America. As for other countries, I really don't know. Some populations do have dozens of children each. I'm assuming that would be in countries where they do not pay to have a baby. And some countries reward child birth with excessive welfare payments per child. Both parents being expected to work outside the home doesn't help, either. It is more acceptable in America to have a stay at home mom, but you should hear the criticism I get from Holland for running my company from my home office and taking care of my kids. I am told I don't work and NEED to "get a job" even though my tax returns do say I work and we are fine financially. Mothers are slowly being looked down upon and it is only a matter of time before America sees it the same way. People think mothers sit and watch TV all day, so the pressure of having 2 working people in a family isn't helping. (Also, child care centers in America are outrageous......are they up to $2000 a month, yet?) Half or more of your paycheck goes to a day care center.
I do suspect it is the middle class in many countries that are no longer having as many kids.
I trust Musk more than Gates.
