Re: Ohio the Heart of it all... Maybe it's true Because I can use the practice typing and it's so much fun to reminisce, a fellow named Alex Bevan did a neat little tune about Ohio's favorite city in 1978 called Let's Have Another Laugh on Cleveland Bluze. It catches the feel of the times in which it was written and had us all in stitches in college when it came out-- They say the best things in life are here And though the skys are very seldom clear here We've got a city full of dreams and We call our city Cleveland It's the best location in the nation, Temporarily caught in a bad situation From the council chambers to the city hall It seems they've finally seen the writing on the wall Projected layoffs in the bunches While at political lunches The topic of discussion's Not re-election or the Russians It goes: "Who's fault's the default? The city sits with empty vaults C.E.I. gets old Muni 'Cause we ain't got that dough re mi" They say a city cannot stand if it's divided But Cleveland's always been east and west sided A little schitzoid, perhaps But then, we got the Flats Steel mills, smokestacks and chemical urns And the only damn river in the world that burns. It's the home of Howard the Duck and the Kielbasa Kid It's where Ziggy and Dorothy Fuldheim also live. It's the rock and roll capital of the world, it's plain It's where the Cleveland Orchestra got its name And full of old world charm, you see- our charming mediocrity If our city planning should draw your perusal Just see how they plan this year's snow removal Yes, Cleveland's the land of dreams And maniacal schemes If you've a taste for the strange Or crave the bizarre The midwest Oz is what we are. So if you've got money in your pocket and a wild hare up your sleeve then Grab yourself a freighter and cruise to Cleveland and watch Dennis "the" Kucinich the people's mayor to da finitch Appeal to you, appeal to me and the FCC on local TV We all hope the city doesn't go down It's just clutching at straws like men who drown But I know we're gonna make it through We're gonna make it proud and smiling too 'Cause we can laugh at ourselves How 'bout you? We'll call this another laugh on Cleveland Bluze! For those unfamiliar with Cleveburg, CEI is a local producer of electricity who bought the old municipal electric plant (Old Muni) when the city was in profound debt. Everyone was wearing "De fault's not mine, I just live there" tee shirts.
