I seem to recall that this is a yearly phenomena called the Perseid meteor showers.. One is almost guaranteed to see a meteor flashing across the sky by watching the sky at night. About one meteor a minute as I recall.

Yep, I used to lay out on the front lawn at night with my old Walkman.
I'd lay there for hours at a time just watching the Perseid meteors light up the night skies.

Person deleted their post, but yes, there is a meteor shower. It rained here all night, so I couldn't see it!

Crap, the person indeed deleted their post.

I showed a meteor disintegrating in the sky. It was way bigger than a shooting star. You could see the actual round fireball and its tail for several seconds, then nothing.
