Some thoughts on Peak Oil It is often stated all of the energy we have today ultimately came from the sun. Our coal, oil, even wood energy is a result of photosynthesis. Even water and wind energy is a result of evaporation for water and heat differences for wind. The question is what is the energy of the sun from? The answer is that it is nuclear energy. The thing is much of this nuclear energy is lost in the distance and the storage and extraction of the energy steps in between. Here is two How stuff works articles http://science.howstuffworks.com/solar-cell.htm http://science.howstuffworks.com/question638.htm I provide a link for Q and A's on nuclear energy. http://www.ans.umr.edu/pages11-20.html There is also much talk and praise for hydrogen fuel cells as a form of energy. The thing is the energy from hydrogen must come from another source. In todays infrastructure that source is fossil fuel. Currently nuclear energy is stunted by regulations placed against it. If we wish to avoid a peak oil crisis scenario, it would help to pursue nuclear energy. Also there is the possibility that alien technologies of zero point energy are valid, and nuclear energy would not have to be used. However nuclear energy is a known and viable alternative to the extreme consumption of coal and oil in common practice today.
