How do you get from academic science to science employed at NASA SpaceX? Is their technology based on the theories we currently teach? What academic theories did Nick Tesla base his tech on? Maybe theorists are semi right?
 
Nikola Tesla did not use any theory to develop his technology. He used the facts evident of his day. All inventors use facts to invent stuff. We still use the technology put forth by Nikola Tesla. It was steam power before Tesla.

Nothing is built using theory ever.

Elon Musk built SpaceX using rocket technology he developed through trial and error. Before Musk we did not have reusable rockets. That alone is what made him the go to man.
