I wouldn't say they are psychic visions but i have had several dreams come true.

I have heard before that there is no such thing as children ghosts, as they have pure souls and immediately go to the beyond, but great story, i was former LDS as well and the missionary's would always tell us weird stories like this!

Have you tried to google map the area and see the cabin from there? Also might be worth asking the park rangers about it, dont tell them you went up it but ask "hey why is this area closed off?" Pictures also take lots of pictures if you do go back to it.
