Well, the principles of it is still the same, you're making the best of your environment, and if you're living between the city and the forest then I say it's okay to mix and match as long as you stay true to the reconnection to earth part.Not Bush Craft....But, close enough.
The only thing I would agree with there is the leather wax. You should never use boiled linseed, too many chemicals in the stuff these days, and as for the grip, it's not needed, a properly treated handle with regular linseed is plenty grippy enough as it is.
Although on my gransfors hunters axe they have a lovely but lightly filed with rings and then gone over with a wire brush process to make it a little bit rougher so it increases the surface contact and tension, I have used it in the pissing rain more than once with absolutely no issues gloves or no gloves.
Their axes are damn good though.
