As an example, when trying to fill a hot pint glass, just washed in piping hot water, does providing a spray, from the cold water supply, off the side of the glass help transfer heat away from the structure helping it stop from cracking ?

a very random thought, cos i was cleaning a glass...

There is one slight problem with rapidly cooling glass...it tends to break or shatter. This is due to some parts of the glass that were hot contracting faster than the bits that are hot and not under a cold spray.

Pirex may withstand that but i would not rely on it.

the point was that the spray was providing a means for the heat to dissipate 'more easily', wasn't very clear with that i guess
